The wine shows superb power and intensity. The fragrance is aromatic and refined yet intense, with notes of leather, smoke and cassis. The Cabernet Sauvignon contributes elegant black fruit and herbal notes with impressions of ripeness and structure complemented by the dense, black fruit and briary smokiness of Syrah, which also enhances structure. A velvety cloak of Barbera wild cherry fruit and almond notes covers the firm tannins and extends into the long finish.
| Tasting notes |
| A blend of Cabernet, Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes, this layered, concentrated wine shows dense black fruit and cassis flavors and a complex aromatic spectrum of spice, tar, leather, black pepper, herbs and sweet new oak set in a structure of fine, focused tannins. |
| Wine maker notes |
| Montemareto Countacc! is produced from plots of Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in the proportion of 40 percent-30 percent-30 percent, respectively. Plantings of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are used in the blend of Plenilunio, a white proprietary wine. The vines are also planted to the maximum density of 2,000 vines per acre to further reduce yield per vine. Thinning of clusters in late summer reduces yield to an average of 30 to 35 hectolitres per hectare. Each of these varieties reaches maturity at a different stage, and in order to achieve perfect maturity, must be harvested at different points during the vintage. Vinification is carried out separately, in temperature-controlled stainless steel, for each variety, and once completed the final blend is assembled.
